Port au Choix National Historical Site
The Port au Choix National Historical Site is located on the west side of the Greater Northern Peninsula of Newfoundland. This area preserves traces of human activity dating back 5000 years, and even before the arrival of Europeans, the rich marine attracted ancient maritime people, Dorset people, Grosvot people, and most recently indigenous people. The seals on the passing ice flow were hunted by the Dorset people and used for food, shelter, and clothing. The coastline is composed of unique limestone wastelands, forests, and bays, where you can visit ancient cemeteries, early indigenous settlements, and appreciate primitive artifacts such as slate spears and harpoons.
