Mistaken Point

Mistaken Point is one of the world’s most significant fossil sites,which named for the navigational hazard it poses at the often-foggy southeastern tip of Newfoundland’s Avalon Peninsula. On July 17, 2016, the coastline of Mistaken Point Ecological Reserve was inscribed as a World Heritage Site. Along its spectacular coastline, we can see tilted and cracked mud-stone layers containing fossils of the oldest complex multicellular life forms found on Earth. This is one of the largest and most diverse places in the world to preserve the Cambrian flower market, as the fossils discovered here may be the oldest multicellular animal fossils in North America and also the oldest deep-sea marine organism fossils in the world....
