Terra Nova National Park
Terra Nova National Park is located in the eastern part of the island of Newfoundland, and Terra Nova derives from the Latin translation of Newfoundland. The park is located in the remnants of the Appalachian Mountains on the east coast of North America and is known for its unique landscape of forests, acid bogs, wetlands and bays. Many Beothuk Native American sites are preserved here. Terra Nova National Park is Newfoundland and Labrador's first national park. The Trans-Canada Highway, Newfoundland's main transportation route, runs through the park, making it easily accessible and attracting many visitors. Steep cliffs, coves around the coast, rolling hills, lush forests, and swamps and ponds make for a stunning landscape. The park also offers a breathtaking view of the combination of lush pine forests and the blue sea. In summer, the park's theatre puts on evening performances and sometimes hosts campfires. In winter, people come here to cross-country ski, camp and hike all year round. The Terra Nova National Park also offers special recreational programs for children, such as the "Nature House" and "Junior Naturalist", which give children the opportunity to play and learn in a natural environment.
